Dear Friends,
What a joy it was to share the Gospel on your behalf in Uganda this year. God continues to do a mighty work in that country. The fields continue to be ripe, and the kingdom of God is growing. This year we focused our efforts in three areas of ministry: our work with orphans, church planting, and the medical clinic we established last year.
First, our work with orphans. There are now 76 orphans in Bethel Village. I enjoyed two days with them, while they camped on the shores of Lake Victoria. We were able to bring four t-shirts for each orphan and they were so grateful. During our class time with them, they were attentive, and quick to grasp the lessons we taught on the Ten Commandments.
Presently, most of these young people live in one house, perhaps the size of yours. But the work on Mephibosheth Hall is going forward. This is the largest building we have ever attempted to build in Uganda; it is Wal-Mart sized and will eventually hold 1500 children. The walls of the first story are complete and dormitories and a soccer field are being constructed next door. We hope to complete the first phase of this project within the next year.
Second, our work with planting churches. Our team was able to hold crusades in four places, Kintintale, Hoima, Fort Portal and in Kaserem. God used these meetings to strengthen local churches and we saw many come to Christ in repentance and faith. One night we were amazed when a sorcerer received Christ. In addition we spoke in several prisons.
In order to be effective in this ministry, we spent four days with about a dozen Ugandan pastors, receiving reports from our previous church plants, planning future church sites and discussing the qualifications for church planters. Our goal is to plant churches in Northeast Uganda, along the main road, all the way to the Kenya border. Next year we hope to plant a church in the village of Chema. We also began the initial work to establish a Christian radio station in this area.
Third, our medical clinic. We were able to bring several thousand dollars of medicine and medical equipment to the clinic. We met our physician, Dr. Moses Muzaale and his nurses; each one has a solid Christian testimony. There are now about 50 patients coming to the clinic each day; even Muslims are coming to Christ through this ministry. Just two years ago, the children in the surrounding village were sick and their skin was covered with ringworm. Now the health of the entire area has significantly improved.
Again, I thank you for partnering with me in the ongoing work in Uganda.
